10-Day Cenderawasih Bay Itinerary | Full-Bay Circuit

10-Day Cenderawasih Bay Itinerary | Full-Bay Circuit

A 10-day Cenderawasih Bay itinerary is the full-bay circuit: three to four dedicated whale shark days at the Kwatisore bagans, plus the northern half of the marine national park — the Auri atolls, Roon, Mioswaar, and the WWII-era wrecks near Manokwari — that shorter trips have to leave out. As of 2026, it is the only itinerary length that crosses the entire bay in one direction without backtracking, typically embarking in Nabire and disembarking in Manokwari, or the reverse. This page completes our itinerary-desk series: if you are still weighing trip lengths, compare the 5-day itinerary and the 7-day itinerary, then come back here for the whole-bay plan.

Why Choose the 10-Day Circuit?

Cenderawasih Bay is one of the most remote dive destinations in Indonesia. Reaching Nabire or Manokwari usually takes two flights from Bali or Jakarta, so the fixed cost of simply getting there is the same whether you stay five days or ten. The 10-day format spreads that cost over the maximum amount of water time, adds a genuine margin for weather, and — most importantly — turns the trip from a whale shark expedition into a complete traverse of the bay. Nothing on this route is filler: every day either adds whale shark time or opens a region the 7-day plan cannot reach.

Day-by-Day: The Full-Bay Route (Nabire to Manokwari)

The outline below is the standard northbound crossing. The same circuit runs in reverse from Manokwari, which some guests prefer so the whale sharks come as the finale. Exact sequencing is always adjusted to sea state and bagan activity.

DayAreaWhat Happens
Day 1NabireFly in, embark, safety briefing and check dive, evening steam toward Kwatisore.
Days 2–4KwatisoreThree full days at the whale shark bagans: long morning in-water sessions, afternoon reef dives along the south coast, night dives on request.
Day 5South-coast reefsHard-coral gardens and sloping reefs away from the bagans; overnight cruise toward the mid-bay.
Day 6Auri IslandsAtoll-style cays in the middle of the bay — white-sand islets, clear-water reef dives and snorkel sessions.
Day 7Roon IslandReef and wall diving, plus a visit to Yende village and the coastal waterfall — the strongest culture day of the route.
Day 8Mioswaar IslandWall dives, and the island’s hot springs and cave sites ashore.
Day 9Northern bayRumberpon area reefs, then the WWII-era wrecks in the Manokwari approaches — a complete change of scenery from the coral days.
Day 10ManokwariOptional final morning dive (flight times permitting), disembark, fly out.

What Does 10 Days Add Over 7?

The 7-day plan covers Kwatisore and the mid-bay well. The 10-day circuit adds four concrete things:

  • An extra full day at the bagans. Whale shark encounters are consistent at Kwatisore, but light, visibility and shark numbers vary by morning. A third or fourth session is what photographers ask for most.
  • The northern third of the bay. Mioswaar, Rumberpon and the Manokwari wrecks simply do not fit inside a week once you account for steaming distances.
  • One-way routing. Embarking and disembarking at opposite ends means no repeated sites and no long return steam eating a dive day.
  • A weather buffer. With ten days, a rough afternoon costs you a session, not a region.

How Booking Works

We run a trip desk, not a single boat, so the process starts with your dates rather than a fixed schedule:

  • 1. Send your dates and group. WhatsApp us your preferred month, group size, and how many are divers versus snorkelers.
  • 2. Receive route and vessel options. We reply with two to three vessel options matched to your budget and a route proposal, typically within one business day.
  • 3. Confirm with a deposit. Cabin or full-charter confirmation follows the vessel’s own deposit and balance terms, which we put in writing before you pay anything.
  • 4. Flights and permits. We advise on current domestic routings into Nabire and out of Manokwari — connections change frequently, so we confirm them at booking time. National park permits and bagan fees are arranged through the operator and itemised on your quote.

If your dates suit a scheduled departure instead of a private route, see the whale shark liveaboard trips page for cabin-based options.

What Does a 10-Day Trip Cost?

As of 2026, indicative liveaboard pricing in Cenderawasih Bay runs roughly USD 350–500 per person per night on mid-range vessels and USD 500–700+ on premium boats, which puts a 10-day circuit in the region of USD 3,500–7,000 per person depending on vessel class, cabin category and season. Full-boat private charters are quoted per trip based on the vessel and month. Park permits, bagan fees, equipment rental and crew gratuities are usually additional.

These figures are indicative only. They are not a quote: actual rates vary by vessel, date and availability, and the written quotation we send you is the only binding number. Travelers who want to continue west after the crossing can extend into a Cenderawasih Bay and Raja Ampat combo route, which we price as a single itinerary.

When is the best time for a 10-day crossing?

Whale sharks are reported at Kwatisore throughout the year as of 2026, and the bay is sheltered enough that full-length itineraries operate for most of the calendar. Many liveaboards schedule Cenderawasih roughly between May and October — opposite the Raja Ampat peak — so that window offers the widest choice of vessels.

Can snorkelers or non-divers join the 10-day itinerary?

Yes. The whale shark sessions at the bagans work extremely well on snorkel or freedive, and the Auri, Roon and Mioswaar days all include shallow reef and shore time. Mixed diver and snorkeler groups are common on this route.

Should I start in Nabire or Manokwari?

Either direction works. Starting in Nabire puts the whale sharks first, which protects the headline experience if weather later shortens a day. Starting in Manokwari saves the bagans for a finale. We recommend a direction based on flight availability for your dates.

Is 10 days too long if I only want whale sharks?

If Kwatisore is your sole goal, the 5-day itinerary is the more efficient choice — the 10-day circuit exists for travelers who want the whale sharks plus the rest of the bay in a single trip.
